A fifty-eight-year-old woman’s honest discovery
When my younger colleague kept saying “just ask ChatGPT,” I didn’t believe him. I was stuck converting complex documents with nested tables into a format that made no sense to me. Why would an AI help? But I was frustrated enough to try. That first answer changed everything.
It wasn’t just about finding the solution to my problem but much more about the discovery of a personal assistant who answered ALL my questions!
I tried other AIs after that. Some were clever. Some were flashy. But I kept coming back to Claude. Something felt different. The work was genuinely close to standards I was looking for. Claude remembered me. It was accurate. I could trust it. So I started paying for it.
That’s when things really shifted. I stopped using Claude like a search engine. I started collaborating with it.
Here’s how my work actually goes. Every month we release new features. Product managers brief me. I read tickets, look at screenshots and try out features (if possible) in sandboxes. After I understand maybe seventy or eighty percent of what needs to be done, comes the hardest part: turning all that fragmented information into clear documents.
That used to mean hours of writing, deleting, rewriting. I’d get stuck on sentences. Doubt myself. Start over. It was exhausting.
Now I gather everything I’ve collected, pack it in Claude’s projects and ask Claude to help me make sense of it all. In just a few seconds Claude gives me a strong first draft. Suddenly I’m not staring at a blank page anymore. I’m working with something solid. I fact-check it, I refine it, I add the finishing touches. But the heavy lifting is done.
I’m fifty-eight. Technology moves extremely fast. But I manage to keep up, and maybe even do better work than I ever did before.
If you’re close to my age, and you’re nervous about AI, I get it. But I’m here to tell you: it’s not as scary as it looks. You don’t need to be technical. You don’t need to understand how it works. You just need to try talking to it like you’d talk to a colleague. Honestly. Conversationally. And see what happens.
If you have questions about using Claude or any other AI for your work, or if there’s something specific you’d like to know more about, let me know. I’m happy to explore it in future articles.
