In 1940, the SS took control of the land around Auschwitz to hide the crimes happening there from the public. They called the forbidden zone the “Zone of Interest” (which is also the name of the film).
Within this zone was the family home of Rudolf Hoess, the commandant of Auschwitz, where he lived with his family. The house was located right next to the camp!
And then scenes from the life of the Hoess family unfold (the spouses and their five children + servants). There is no plot, no drama, just their everyday life, while the sounds (and rare scenes) from the camp are heard in the background.
I will stop describing the film right here because anything further would be my personal perception.
